In 2004, shortly after being founded, PAL-C played an instrumental role in the creation of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus. This creation of the Pakistan Caucus was a landmark event in the community’s history and a milestone for U.S-Pakistan relations. It is a source of great pride for PAL-C and for the community that we were able to establish this Congressional Caucus.
What is the Congressional Pakistan Caucus?
A congressional caucus is a group of members of the United States Congress that meets to pursue common legislative objectives. The Congressional Pakistan Caucus is bi-partisan (meaning it is made up of both Democrat and Republican Members of Congress).
The Caucus works to promote positive legislation affecting the Pakistani American community and a mutually beneficial and strong U.S.-Pakistan relationship.
The Pakistan Caucus also hold briefings (informational sessions) on important issues affecting the Pakistani-American community and the U.S.-Pakistan relationship seeking to educate Members and staffers in a way that is unbiased, useful and accurate. Members of the Caucus may also push for official hearings which serve to create an official record of expert testimony in anticipation of legislation.
Is My Member of Congress Part of Congressional Pakistan Caucus?
With the support of the Pakistani American community and friends, PAL-C has played an instrumental role in expanding the Pakistan Caucus to over 50 Members of Congress. To find out if your Member is a part of the Caucus please e-mail us at taha@pal-c.org.
If your Member of Congress is not a part of the Caucus, our PAL-C staff would be happy to work with you to guide you on the steps on how to invite your Member to join and be a part of this excellent group.
